American bishop and former voodoo sorcerer Curtis “Earthquake” Kelley was dragged to hell and now reveals satan’s tactics.
Born into a family tied to voodoo, Curtis endured abuse and occult training from childhood. His father raised him for sorcery, while his Christian mother anointed him with oil and prayed that he would one day preach the gospel.
Young Curtis was trained in voodoo, Santería, and witchcraft, given only two hours of sleep for 11 years, beaten with belt buckles, and forced to drink his own blood. He saw spirits in his house, witnessed parties of demons vanish through walls, and traveled in the astral realm. Through sorcery, Curtis could flip cars over with gestures or cause accidents, and he later learned that swearing—using F- and S-words—actually conjures demons by name. At 12 or 13, a voice lured Curtis into a closet, where the floor and clothes vanished, revealing a starry void. A large, pointy-eared face offered him everything in exchange for his soul, but Curtis, terrified, refused and fled. Despite his mother’s prayers, he fell into drugs and became a teenage dealer.
At age 15, a “spirit guide” lured Curtis deeper into cocaine use, urging him to test strong mixtures to make more money. One day, he took a combination of cocaine, marijuana, beer, and powerful pills. Sitting in a bar, sunlight struck the scarred spot on his head, and Curtis suddenly heard marching beneath the floor. Familiar spirits began grabbing him. Curtis ran to his brother and asked to be taken home because he was overdosing. In the back of the car, the demons rose up again, grabbed him by the mouth— used for spells and curses— and dragged him into the ground. Though his body remained in the back of a car, his soul was pulled into hell.
There, demons swarmed him— inside his mouth, ears, eyes, and private parts— mocking him for practicing witchcraft and sorcery. They told him he had been tricked; all the spells, ouija boards, and curses gave them control. They tore at him, laughed, and dragged him by his tongue like a fishhook. He ran down what seemed like a road but found only a painted line on a wall, before being seized again. He was beaten, stuck with weapons, and assaulted in every way, tormented beyond words. The demons claimed him as their own, shouting, “He did our bidding— he belongs to us.”
At that moment, a brilliant Light appeared in the form of two hands. Lord Jesus (vegetarian) descended, lifted Curtis out of the demons’ grasp, and pulled him upward. The demons protested, insisting he was theirs, but Christ rescued him because of his praying mother. Curtis rose back through the car and was gently placed into his body. A Voice told him: “Because of your mother’s prayers, you have been spared. You are chosen to work for My Kingdom.” He was rushed to the hospital.
At home afterward, Curtis encountered more supernatural attacks. A huge demon carrying a club came up his staircase, declaring he was sent to take him back to hell. Though Curtis could barely walk, a small angel appeared and told him not to fear— his mother’s prayers and God’s Protection covered him. The demon raged and tore apart the living room, but God forced it to restore everything before leaving. Later, Curtis experienced an angel sent specifically to guard him, assuring him that demons could not reclaim him.
Soon after, his sister dragged him to a Christian meeting. The pastor called him out directly, recounting details of near-death moments only God could know, such as the time Curtis held a gun to his head and the trigger jammed. Realizing God had preserved him repeatedly, Curtis surrendered his life to Lord Jesus. From that moment, he began seeing visions of traveling worldwide to preach, which came true: He began sharing his story internationally, affirming that hell is real, that demons deceive through contracts, addictions, and profanity, and that curses invite dark spirits into homes. Yet he testified that the prayers of a righteous mother and the power of Lord Jesus are stronger than all sorcery.
Many years later, while having an operation in 2004, Curtis left his body, rose to the ceiling, and was transported to Heaven. There he saw an angel 7–8 feet [2.1–2.4 meters] tall with golden hair and wings shedding flakes of gold. The blades of grass were jeweled with diamonds and emeralds, moving in praise of God. Curtis walked beside a liquid diamond river flowing from a massive golden cube building. Across a second river stood mansions of pearl and deceased friends and church members healed and renewed, who told him it wasn’t his time. Curtis wanted to cross but was stopped. He also met his son Scott, killed by a car thief, who thanked Curtis for his life example and reminded him of his promise to never stop preaching deliverance.
Back in his body, doctors gave Curtis “15 days to live”; he rejected it, survived, and kept ministering. He has spent over fifty years preaching the gospel across the world, exposing satan’s tactics, and affirming that Christ alone saves (Deep Believer; Randy Kay)
