Guyanese prison chaplain Reverend Dr. Norma Edwards shares how during her 1969 near-death experience, she was shown her life’s plan before birth—and was shocked to see she hadn’t fulfilled her purpose.
In 1969, 26-year-old Norma was living in London [UK] and collapsed at work with severe pain. A Hindu woman helped her reach a hospital, where doctors found a fetus that had died inside her three months earlier— unknown due to a prior traumatic delivery.
In the operating room, Norma’s pain ceased as she suddenly found herself floating above her body. She was fully conscious— more aware than in life— but invisible and unheard by the doctors below. When her heart flatlined, she still didn’t realize she had died. As the team prepared defibrillators, she feared the paddles may harm her, and then she drifted upward through a dark tunnel toward a brilliant white Light.
Entering the Light, Norma felt a powerful sense of peace and love, and she realized light and love are of the same essence. She then stood before a vast screen showing three columns: her pre-birth life plan, the conditions meant to help fulfill it, and a third column repeatedly marked “objective not accomplished.” Norma saw how she had chased status and wealth, and lost sight of her true, spiritual purpose. She also saw her past lives— times of wealth, poverty, and both causing and feeling suffering— all influencing her current life path.
At a river of Light, hundreds of radiant souls welcomed her. Norma’s recently deceased aunt stepped forward and said she must return with a message: “There is more to life than meets the eye, and life is eternal.” Though she wished to stay and resisted, Norma slammed back into her body in agony. For three years, she went through depression, longing to return to that place of love and clarity.
After the experience, Norma’s senses became heightened—she could see music as colors and see energy in nature. Electrical devices often stopped working around her. Fearing people would think she was mentally ill, Norma stayed silent about her experience for 15 years. She finally shared it with her dying mother to comfort her before her passing, and later, with encouragement from her church, she began speaking about it publicly. This path has led Norma to work as a prison chaplain for 27 years, helping others by teaching that life is eternal and cannot be taken away (Love Covered Life Podcast)
