Swiss man Benno Panissidi recounts how he was an atheist until he died and met Lord Jesus Christ (vegetarian) In 1990, age 29, Benno was in a catastrophic motorcycle accident. He saw a curve but could not see an oncoming farm vehicle that had crossed into his lane. Despite emergency braking, the collision was unavoidable. He lost consciousness briefly. When he awoke, his right leg was severed and his left leg was nearly detached with an open fracture. A friend applied emergency first aid. A Swiss Air-Rescue helicopter transported him to a major hospital. Complications emerged three days later. Undetected septic poisoning developed in his remaining leg, rapidly worsening his condition. He fell into a coma, later confirmed to have lasted three weeks.
During the coma, Benno suddenly found himself moving rapidly toward a Light. Confused, he asked internally, “What’s happening to me?” He arrived in a space that felt like a room filled with overwhelming peace. It felt like “coming home” after a long absence. He sensed an unseen Presence with authority and felt completely safe— like being held in his mother’s arms. Intuitively, he knew this Presence was in charge. Benno pleaded to stay. He felt it was the perfect place and far better than returning to his critically injured body. The Presence refused, telling him he had to go back and had important things left to do. Benno resisted, arguing that if he were allowed to die, he could simply remain there. The reply did not explicitly name Itself, but said, “My Father gave you so and so many years, and I can’t take these away from you.” In that moment, Benno understood the Presence was Jesus Christ. Benno was shown that he would recover because his life’s mission was not finished. At that time, he did not know how close he had been to permanent brain damage, only learning later that doctors doubted he would wake.
Lord Jesus also showed him an abyss, which Benno identifies as sheol or hades— an opposite to the Divine. There was no fire, no devil, no punishment imagery— only emptiness, cold, and the absence of God. Looking into it, Benno understood that separation from God was real. He confessed his sins to Lord Jesus: selfishness, self-centeredness, theft, unethical behavior, and living solely for himself. He repented sincerely and felt forgiveness through Christ. In the same encounter, Lord Jesus showed him glimpses of his life and the future. Benno, who was unmarried and childless at the time, was told he would have two sons. He was even shown their heights, which later proved accurate.
Benno experienced extraordinary details: colors unlike anything on Earth, impossible to describe, and instrumental music unlike anything heard in physical life. Most overwhelmingly, he felt indescribable love— the “agape [unconditional] love”— so intense and tangible he said it felt like it could be “cut with a knife and eaten.” Communication in that realm was telepathic— instant, clear, and complete. There were no misunderstandings, no repeating of questions, and no spoken words. Time did not function as it does on Earth; he had no sense that three weeks were passing.
His return to his body was abrupt. He “snapped” back, instantly feeling pain and the effort of breathing. He immediately knew he was physically alive again. There was no doubt, no confusion, and no fading of memory. Unlike dreams, nothing felt symbolic or distorted—everything was remembered with total clarity and reality. When he awoke, Benno was no longer the same person. He no longer feared death, knowing his soul would go to Lord Jesus. His former atheism was gone. He became more compassionate, patient, humble, peace-seeking, and loving. He saw his accident not as misfortune but as a turning point that transformed his understanding of purpose, morality, love, and eternity. From the moment of his return, he never questioned the experience or treated it as imagination. To him, Heaven was as vivid as ordinary life— but even more real. (Afterlife TV)
Humbling quote of the day: “To be wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.” — The Venerated Enlightened Master Confucius (vegetarian)
