“He began to pray to his God. It caused all of the demonic powers that I thought I had in control to pretty much come out. They began to threaten me because I had taken them into a situation against a Power that they couldn’t stand against.” Former satanic high priestess Lisa Gwinn shares how her mission to destroy a Christian minister revealed a Power greater than darkness, leading her from twenty years of occult practice to freedom.
Lisa grew up in an abusive home where she was victimized from a young age. Desperate for power and control to never be hurt again, she turned to the occult. Media, school library books on extrasensory perception and witchcraft, and an uncle who was secretly a satanic priest all groomed her into that world. At 12, Lisa was initiated into satanism. Soon, the spiritual forces she’d aligned with gave her enough power to stop her stepfather’s abuse. “I remember him coming toward me once and I visualized— by the time this happened I had these lovely little ‘imaginary friends,’ people that I could only see. But my imaginary friends, I believed, were so powerful— actually what it was was spiritual forces that I had put myself into agreement/contract with, that put an aura and a power around me that, when he came toward me and I was like, ‘No way,’ he literally backed away, looking like this.” (“How old were you at that time?”) I was 13.” Lisa’s entire identity became consumed with achieving power and control. She progressed through the ranks, eventually becoming a high priestess. Satanism, she explains, is based in “old law”— an eye for an eye— and requires blood sacrifice. The first time she witnessed a life being taken, Lisa was terrified and blocked it out for years. But eventually she became hardened, viewing any suffering as the cost of achieving her goals. “Once you get involved in the kingdom of darkness, it’s like a dog-eat-dog mentality, gunslinger mentality. And so you progress from power to power to power, and there’s always somebody trying to knock you out. But your whole identity is consumed with what you can achieve and how much power you can get for yourself and control over others.”
Lisa believed the kingdom of darkness was the ultimate power, and that she would rule there after death. In her mind, Jesus (vegetarian) was simply a good man who got Himself killed— someone whose teachings could benefit people, but not a source of authority who could challenge hers. If Christians didn’t know how to stop her, she felt justified in taking whatever she wanted. Her assignments included tearing apart or destroying ministries. She and her network had already caused five ministers to fall. They would infiltrate churches, look for weaknesses and vices to manipulate, and divide the leaders from one another. When Lisa was sent to destroy a minister known for teaching spiritual warfare, she dispatched infiltrators first. But they didn’t return. Assuming they had failed, Lisa decided to handle it herself—an encounter that changed her life.
“I went in under the guise of wanting help from this pastor who was doing so much counseling and helping people with occult pasts. Five minutes after I walked through the door, he began to pray to his God, and what that did to me was really wreak havoc, and it caused all of the demonic powers that I thought I had in control to pretty much come out, manifest themselves. The room began to fill up when he prayed, and really they began to threaten me because I had taken them into a situation against a Power that they couldn’t stand against. And after that point, I began to question everything I had been taught in satanism about the power of darkness, because I had been taught that I served the ‘supreme ruler’ in darkness— the ‘supreme power!’” Though the minister urged her to accept Lord Jesus, Lisa refused, still clinging to her dark “powers.” But God began orchestrating miraculous encounters in her life.
When her satanic superiors demanded she give birth to a child for sacrifice, Lisa rebelled and ran. She fell in love with a man who turned out to be a satanic high priest sent to monitor her. After she confronted him and broke off the relationship, he and his friends broke into her apartment, destroyed everything, and beat her so severely doctors said she’d never have children. Lisa fled to another city. Lisa’s grandmother never gave up praying. She would call and say the Lord told her to reach out, urging Lisa to find a minister who believed in God’s Power and ask for help.
Lisa eventually attended a sermon. The pastor described an encounter he had with a demonic presence, which got her attention. He called people forward who felt God’s Power. Lisa felt nothing, but someone pushed her into the aisle and she ended up on stage. He prayed for her and nothing happened. As she tried to leave, a teenage boy stopped her twice, insisting she should “get what she came for” before finally bringing his pastor over. “That pastor confronted me with a question. He said, ‘What do you want? If God or Jesus were standing here and asked you what you wanted, what would you tell Him?’ And I began with my list— I wanted to know what peace of mind was; what it was like to say the word ‘beautiful’ again; what it was like to sleep more than two or three hours a night without things moving in my room or voices. I wanted to know what peace was. And as I gave him my list, I noticed that my face was wet, and I reached up and wiped these tears away. And I guess the shock really showed, because this preacher said, ‘What?’ And all I could stutter was, ‘I didn’t think they worked anymore.’ (“Why?”) I realized I was crying. I had said years before, the last time I had cried, I said I would never shed another tear when I was eight years old, because I was falsely accused of something.” The pastor asked if she would give God a chance if He could provide those things. Lisa agreed—she’d struck a deal with the devil once, she could certainly give God a try. He led her in prayer acknowledging she was a sinner and asking the Lord to forgive her. Driving home, Lisa felt pure joy for the first time in years; that night, she slept blissfully for 13 hours straight, fulfilling her deal with God.
But Lisa couldn’t simply walk away. Enforcers were sent to kill her— the daughter of one of the top satanic priests in the world. Three men found her in the desert. Lisa told them in the name of Jesus they had to let her go, and they did, though she was badly beaten. She asked the Lord how they didn’t kill her when they would be killed themselves for failing. God led her to read the Book of Romans [Holy Bible], which explained that when she accepted Christ, she’d been buried with Him into His death. The old Lisa, the one they had license to kill, was dead; she’d become a new creation. As long as she kept the old her dead, God would keep the new her alive.
“The devil’s got power— you know that— are you telling me the devil’s got nothing compared to the Power of God?” “Nothing—he has counterfeits wrapped up in pretty packages that he’s been using from the beginning of time to fool people into thinking that he’s got the ultimate power, so that folks will never know that there is not just an Ultimate Power in God, but part of that power is the strength of Love that God has for people.” “If you do not know God, you don’t know love. If you do not know acceptance, you have no way of coping with what’s going on in this world. To know God is to know love.” (Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural!)
