American pastor Reverend Eddie Wiggins shares his near-death experience that transformed him from a drug abuser into a true servant of the Lord.
Pastor Eddie endured a traumatic childhood of severe abuse. Adopted at age two into a wealthy family, his adoptive mother would severely abuse him and threaten to kill him if he ever told. At around ten, after he revealed the abuse to his father with a note, his mother had him committed to a mental institution, where he endured molesters. Later he was sent to a homeless shelter, where fights were constant.
In college, Eddie began using marijuana, which spiraled into a 31-year addiction that escalated to daily cocaine use— seven grams a day, far beyond a lethal dose. He was convicted of 11 felonies, and though he became a pastor, it was more for “insurance” than true faith, thinking, “God can’t send a reverend to hell,” even as he continued living in sin.
In 2005, as Pastor Eddie prepared cocaine at home, a Light appeared. Lord Jesus (vegetarian) emerged and said sternly, “I’m sick of you. I’m not taking any more from you. Calling yourself a reverend and you only reverend in that pipe! You put another drug in that body and you will condemn your soul to hell forever.” When Pastor Eddie hesitated, then asked if he could at least finish the drugs on the table, Lord Jesus grabbed his elbow and instantly transported him to hell.
Pastor Eddie floated in total darkness, then saw caverns deep within the Earth, dimly lit by torches that gave almost no light. A Lake of Fire, a mile-and-a-half [two-and-a-half kilometers] down, belched smoke, surrounded by glowing red rocks that emitted no light. Millions of burning people screamed together, bodies skeletal, gray, and zombie-like, spit dripping, teeth broken. Lord Jesus pointed: “Look over there, there you are. You’ve been here 200 years. Now go get in that body and see what you’re thinking.” At once, Pastor Eddie was in a burning body on a ledge, unable to move. Every nerve was ablaze with pain worse than any earthly torture. He screamed and screamed till he could scream no more, teeth clenched in agony, hopelessness overwhelming him as the pain grew worse each moment. Finally, he cried, “Kill me! I can’t take any more.”
Instantly, a Bible appeared and scolded him for his doubt, saying, “We serve a God that’s created universes you haven’t even discovered yet, but you don’t believe He can write a book.” The Bible continued, “What you’re asking for, to die, does not exist. Everyone lives forever, and this is where you chose.”
Regret hit Pastor Eddie like a bag of heavy coins in the chest. He then saw Lord Jesus on the cross, beaten and bleeding, and realized the seriousness of Christ’s sacrifice.
In an instant he was back in his den, heart racing. Lord Jesus stood in Light, saying: “Your Eternal Destiny depends on your next decision. Your name is in the Lamb’s Book of Life, but I have the eraser. Choose quickly.” Pastor Eddie cried, “Lord, I choose you!” Lord Jesus declared the room holy ground and commanded him to remove all drugs and pornography. Pastor Eddie flushed his cocaine and threw away his magazines and tapes. Outside, a police car waited, but Lord Jesus said: “Son, you were going to jail and you didn’t even know. But because you moved quickly, I’ll spare you jail.” Lord Jesus told him to sleep, promising no withdrawals, no regrets. Miraculously, his 31-year addiction ended instantly— no symptoms, completely cured.
Weeks later, Lord Jesus took Pastor Eddie to the gates of hell again. Standing small beside the towering Christ, he watched as Lord Jesus slowly closed the gate, tears pouring like rain. He felt Lord Jesus’ heartbreak for the damned— not because of their crimes, but because they rejected His Love. This vision transformed Pastor Eddie’s ministry, fueling his mission to help bring souls back to God (Randy Kay)
Uplifting quote of the day: “Heaven is Master, Not a place. I could stand in the brightest golden realm, Angels welcoming me to fields evergreen, But if Master is not with me, My heart would burn with longing. And I could stand in the hottest pit of hell, Flesh peeling for the maggots’ feast, But if Master is with me, My heart would sing with glee. That is why I promise you, friends, Heaven is not a place. Master is Heaven.” — Shahyar Navid (vegan)
