“I’m not trying to freak people out. I’m trying to say we’re going through a big, big change, and there’s a reason for it.” Gary Wimmer, a lifelong spiritual seeker and musician, shares how a head-on collision in 1977 blasted him out of his body into a realm called Infinite Mind, gave him visions of Earth’s future, and then returned him to his body without a single injury— and why he believes humanity is in a necessary transition.
At 29, Gary had been touring with a band and experimenting with psychic abilities when strange phenomena overtook him. In the days leading up to his accident, he began feeling other people’s thoughts, sensing headlines through his roommate’s eyes, and perceiving unseen guardians. I felt these guardian angels. I felt something was watching over me. They seemed to name themselves “the monitors.” Then all of a sudden… I opened my eyes, and there’s this huge light shining down on me six feet (1.8 meters) up above me. Then it appeared as a crystal table about this thick. And as I looked through it, I saw these palms of these seven monitors. Fear had just instantly vaporized. The beings asked him repeatedly whether he trusted them. Then, in an instant, the accident occurred. In a second or two, I was involved in a head-on collision with a speeding car. Bam, got hit! Tumbling over the car.
Outside his body, Gary watched the impact with surreal detachment. I’m expanding outside the car in all directions. I saw the whole city of Austin, Texas. I saw the whole Earth contract within me. Planets, galaxies expanding bigger and bigger.
His awareness accelerated beyond the Universe. It was a starry sky and there were infinite Universes, and that’s the one I came out of. And then this whole infinite Universes rolled up kind of like a tunnel of light… I felt like I was shot through it. Then came the realm he calls Infinite Mind. I was in this blue, infinite void that was unbelievably peaceful and beautiful. And it was Infinite Mind. Here, Gary perceived creation, free will, thought, manifestation, and the interconnectedness of all Universes. You just rock it, you just get it. It doesn’t have to be in English or anything, you just understand it because you’re part of it. But then Gary sensed he might not be a part of it, he might only be observing it, and the pull back began. As he re-entered this Universe, he saw three sets of prophetic flashcards. The first showed global upheaval. The second revealed a golden future. The third concerned his own life.
The first series was what we’re going through now. I saw 9/11, I saw COVID-19, I saw global warming, this carnage in the country. I’m not trying to freak people out. I’m trying to say we’re going through a big, big change and there’s a reason for it. The second sequence contrasted sharply with the first. The second series of images were the thousand years of peace. Exploring space. Solving a lot of our problems, idealized love, no hatred. So there’s a big gap between where we are and where we’re headed. The third set of pictures, it was about me. And then all of a sudden, I see my body and I jump back into my body.
Gary stood up in the middle of the busy street as bystanders screamed in disbelief. I’ve just been to Heaven and back. I felt no pain. I felt great! After leaving the hospital, he wrestled with the unanswered question: Why him? Eight months later, the monitors returned.
I felt these guides, the monitors were near me. I didn’t see them, but they shot a beam of light in my head like a laser. They basically said, you had this experience because you wanted it. You were always curious, you wanted to know, you asked. Their message was simple: asking opens the door to higher consciousness. Ask and you shall receive. Over time, Gary realized the experience had given him more than visions—it had given him a lifelong relationship with Infinite Mind. It also taught him that humanity’s struggle serves a purpose.
We can’t change the chaos the world’s going through now. And the reason we’re going through it? One simple reason: we all have to see the holes in the boat—the flaws in ourselves and in our systems— before we can fix them. We get to pay attention and heed the call or ignore it. Choice, choice, choice. And I always say the most powerful thing in human nature is free will. Because we get to choose how we see things, how we perceive things. It ain’t our situation, it’s how we perceive it. Because how we perceive, how we look at it means how we’re going to act and react, and either make it worse or better, or make a change or not.
His advice: don’t fear the turbulence of the times. In spite of all the chaos, I really do encourage people to not freak out. You know, the world is going through a big change. We’re part of it. Don’t freak out. Don’t limit yourself on how much power and light you can bring to yourself as a protection. But if you don’t put a raincoat on and you walk outside, you’re going to get wet. There’s unlimited potential in our mind, soul, heart. There’s no limit to how much we can grow spiritually.
To him, this illustrates the principle he learned in an instant during his NDE (near-death experience): cooperation with the Divine Mind makes life flow.
We can only do our part. But if we do our part, we’re doing the most important part.
In the aftermath of his experience, Gary practices self-love, discipline, creativity, and spiritual openness— traits his spiritual guides reinforced. And I encourage people all the time to open up to your infinite mind. That’s why we’re going through all these changes now. Humankind is not being tortured, it’s being slapped in the face: Wake up! It all starts inside. Love yourself. Forgive yourself. Liberate yourself. It’s never, never, never how hard we work in life. It’s how smart, it’s how wise, it’s how inspired, it’s how virtuous, it’s how true to our core values. Have hearts, have soul, folks. Believe you can climb that mountain. Ask for help, and don’t be surprised if you start climbing that mountain! (Shaman Oaks)
